The ground is in perfect condition, the weather is hazy and mild.

Barkers are a girl short of a full compliment and Lucy-Joy helped them out by switching sides.

Bosworth kick the game off kicking down the hill. The game is fairly even to begin with until Connie makes one of her powerful runs which sucks in the Barkers’ defenders, Connie goes to ground and the ball is passed out to Lucy who scores the try. 5-0 The conversion is missed from a tight angle.

Barkers kick off and are under pressure from the restart. Under this pressure Barkers concede a penalty which is tapped and passed to Bea who bundles her way over the white wash. 10-0. Missed conversion.

Connie switches with Lucy -Joy to play with Barkers in the second half and on comes Rose for her home debut.

The second half begins with a bit of this way and then that way and it’s Barkers who draw first blood in the second half. 17-5 conversion is missed.

Barkers score again after a move from out of the scrum 17-10 conversion is missed.

Barkers have their tails up and some nifty footwork makes some space for a powerful drive over the try line to make it 17-15. The conversion is missed.

In the dying minutes the ball is in the hands of Lucy who makes no mistake and makes the final score 22-15. Conversion is missed.

The Lionesses and Barkers seemed to make this fixture a close run match which is a credit to them all. Well done girls.

Player of the Week was awarded to Emily for her passion and commitment, an excellent performance.

16th April 2023 Fosse Falcons RFC U14W 0 - 46 Market Bosworth RFC U14W Click for match report

The grass was a little on the long side but dry the weather was rather mild, feeling spring like. The Lionesses have a couple of debutants playing today - Sydney and Rose.

The Lionesses kick the game off and for the first few minutes there’s a lot of cat and mouse between the two sides. Erin makes a good dump tackle which begins a good passage of play, after a few passing phases the ball is passed out to Sophia who goes over for the first try. 5-0 conversion missed from a tight angle.

Falcons restart the game and ball lands a the feet of Chloe who picks the ball up and with a couple of side steps makes enough room for a perfect kick over the Falcons defence, now it’s a foot race which the Lionesses win and again on hand is Sophia with her second try. The conversion is good, 12-0.

Erin is having a really good game, involved in a lot of good things, and it is Erin who goes over the try line this time 17-0 conversion missed.

The Lionesses are rampant down the wing and Sophia has a hatrick in the first half 22-0.

The changes are made at halftime on comes Rose for her debut at Prop.

Falcons start the second half and although there has been a few changes to the Lionesses it has not made them any weaker. Some really good passes out to the winger Sydney who seems to have jet heels and over the try line she goes. Converted 29-0.

Next Phoebe wriggles free for the next try. 34-0.

The Falcons almost score a try but Sophia holds the ball up and with help of Chloe the ball is cleared upfield.

A penalty against the Falcons allows the Lionesses to tap and go, Bella taps and passes the ball to Connie who ploughs through the Falcons and makes 40 metres before going to ground. The ball ends up with Erin, who earlier forgot about rucking over the ball, but she makes amends by scoring her second try. 39-0 conversion is missed.

With the match almost over Chloe makes some space for herself and with a clear run in touches down under the posts for an easy conversion 46-0 to the Lionesses.

The score line seems a little harsh on a good Fosse Falcons side. Well done girls probably the best match of all round performances by all.

26th March 2023 Market Bosworth RFC U14W 0 - 0 Oakham RFC U14W (home walkover, combined training match)

Oakham were unable to field a full side so Bosworth and Oakham girls all combined together in a thrilling match which ended 44-41 to the Yellows!  Debutant Sydney impressed the girls and all the spectators with her very solid performance.

5th March 2023 Old Yardleians U14W 31 - 0 Market Bosworth RFC U14W Click for match report

Well done to Old Yardleians (Solihull Vixens) who gave the Lionesses their toughest game of the season.  Solihull were dominant at the breakdown which gave them the platform to score some good tries, and these were backed up by great conversion kicks.

It was brilliant to see the Bosworth girls keep going, epitomised by the determination of the player of the match Isabelle.

12th March 2023 Market Bosworth RFC U14W 46 - 5 Worcester RFC U14 Girls Click for match report

The pitch was sticky in places today, and the weather changed from being mild and sunny to overcast with a cold breeze.

Worcester kick the game off to start today’s game. Uncontested scrums and line outs due to Worcester losing their 2 props to illness and injury before the game. The start was a little scrappy with each side making some handling errors however Connie is the first to make some decent metres then Chloe puts in a high kick, however 2 Lionesses get in each other’s way and the ball is knocked on - penalty to Worcester. They take full advantage and race down the pitch to score a try. 5-0 to the visitors as the conversion is missed.

The Lionesses restart and from the kick off, they chase down the Worcester defence. The Lionesses turn over the ball and the scrum half Bella gets ball out to the backs. Dangerous Doris is really close to the try line but is just held up, however Sophia is able to dive over the try line for Bosworth's first points on the board. 5-5 the conversion was missed from a difficult angle.

Worcester restart and the ball lands in Larry’s hands who swiftly passes the ball to Lucy who dances through a few players and is clean through under the posts which makes it easier for the kicker and this time is converted by Chloe. 12-5 at half time.

At half time Bosworth make some changes and those changes make an immediate impact as Bea was her determined self and scored under the posts 19-5 as Chloe converts.

From the restart the Lionesses gain some ground and now are starting to purr, the backs are passing the ball with a bit of speed. Talking of speed it is Sophia who sprints her way right to the far corner of the try line 24-5. The conversion is really tight to the touch line and it is just missed.

The game is restarted and Abi makes a decent break and is being supported by Phoebe who almost breaks clean through apart from a try saving tackle from the Worcester player covering. The ball is recycled and Sophie wiggles and burrows her way over the try line. 29-5 the conversion is missed.

The next try is a little bit fortuitous as the ball kicked by Worcester hits a Bosworth foot and rolls forward, the ball is once again in the hands Isabelle who is everywhere again, she picks out Sophia, try 34-5, conversion missed.

The Lionesses are really putting a good Worcester side under the cosh now and it’s Lucy with next try with some great footwork unders the posts. 41-5 converted by Chloe.

Worcester heads are still up and they keep going to the end, unfortunately they have Lucy and Sophia to contend with and between the two of them they come off second best, with great support play between them Lucy races clear. 46-5 is the result to the Lionesses.

A great game to watch with both sides contributing to some good play. Well done to Worcester and Bosworth.

26th Feb 2023 Melton Mowbray U14 Girls 12 - 42 Market Bosworth RFC U14W Click for match report

Cloudy with sunny intervals the breeze was on the chilly side. The ground was firm and dry.

Melton kick off to get the game underway but after the first scrum there is an injury to a Melton player which requires an ambulance to attend and the game is switched to the next pitch.

We all wish the Melton player a swift recovery and hope it’s not a serious injury.

The game gets back underway and the play is a bit scrappy from both sides, Melton break the defensive line and if it wasn’t for a fabulous try saving tackle from Lucy Melton would have scored.

The Lionesses are the first to score however, with a bit of passing down the line for Erin to touchdown. 5-0 and the conversion was between the posts from Chloe 7-0.

Melton restart and the Lionesses let the ball bounce, it is not to their advantage as Melton collect and carve straight through the Bosworth defensive line with ease. 7-5 the conversion is missed.

Melton have the upper hand as the Lionesses seem to be making some passing and tackling errors and they get more points on the scoreboard with the converted try. 12-7 Melton lead.

Bosworth ring the changes at half time with Bea, Isabelle, Sophia, Alana and Chloe coming to the lineup.

Bosworth get the second half underway and begin to dominate play, Melton are penalised and the Lionesses win the scrum, the ball is in the hands of Abi who rides a couple of Melton challenges and touches down. The try is converted by Chloe. 14-12 Bosworth lead.

Melton kick off and are instantly put under pressure as Chloe kicks for Melton's touch line. From the Melton line out the Lionesses win the ball which is passed out to Erin who goes over the try line for her second. 19-12 and it is converted 21-12 to Bosworth.

Now it’s time for Sophia to stretch those speedy legs, in fact 13 out of 15 of the Lionesses just stand at the halfway line as Sophia is never going to be caught. 26-15. Chloe is in fine kicking form and converted this one as well. 28-12.

Not to be out scored up steps Lucy with the last 2 Bosworth tries on the trot, who with her trademark side stepping turned the Melton side inside out and Chloe converted all the conversions 42-12 the Lionesses win.

This game truly was a tale of two halves. Melton played their part in this tight game. Well done to both teams.

19th Feb 2023 Market Bosworth RFC U14W 5 - 10 Mansfield RUFC U14W Click for match report

A bright sunny day with slightly cool breeze. The pitch was flat and firm.

The Lionesses line up with most of the usual players however due to a few players missing in specific positions some of the Lionesses are playing out of position.

Bosworth kick off playing down hill to start today’s game. Both sides begin with similar tactics which is passing the ball out to the speedy wingers. The Lionesses draw blood first and it’s Sophie who comes out smiling with a nice try following some power play from Bea who week after week puts her body on the line. 5-0 Bosworth the conversion was missed.

The Lionesses are being put under a lot of Mansfield pressure and the usually calm players seem to be making mistakes passing the ball like a hot potato or popping the ball up from the ground but the very well coached Mansfield cotton on to this play and are quick to pick up this loose play and punish Bosworth. 5-5. Mansfield missed the conversion.

Bosworth stick to their game plan but this time the Lionesses give away a penalty for a high tackle, the Lionesses turn their backs to walk back to their positions and Mansfield take the kick quickly and they score a try without a single Bosworth finger being laid on Mansfield. 10-5 to Mansfield, the conversion missed just to the left of the posts.

At half time Mansfield are leading 10-5. A couple of the Lionesses, Doris and Jess, switch to play for Mansfield.

Mansfield start the second half kicking down the hill. In the second half there is a lot of stalemate as the Lionesses and Mansfield girls cancel each other out.

Not the most exciting game, which isn’t the girls' fault, they just seemed to be very evenly matched.

Mansfield win 10-5. Well done girls.

12th Feb 2023 Market Bosworth RFC U14W 36 - 17 Old Yardleians RFC U14W Click for match report

A rather overcast day with a slight chill to the air. The pitch was firm.

Although the players were advised to meet at 12.30 to get warmed up, it seemed as though they were slightly discombobulated, only three or four of them were out on the pitch on time to get into the warm up routine. A little more discipline is required possibly??

Today’s Lionesses line-up is still missing a few of the regular players due to other commitments, however the Lionesses still have a strong starting 15 and allows some of the other players to show what they have to offer.

Bosworth kick off playing down the hill, Vixens look like a very well drilled team winning the rucks and turning over the ball. It’s the Vixens who get the first try after some poor tackling from the Lionesses, Vixens lead 5-0 conversion is missed.

Lionesses restart the game and once again the Vixens gain ground with poor Lionesses' tackling and they are punished by the Vixens. 12-0 with the conversion.

The Lionesses kick off again and after a bit of scrappy play from both sides Vixens manage to suck the Lionesses in to the middle then pass the ball out to the quick winger and once again the Lionesses are 3 tries down fairly early on in a match. 17-0 to Solihull Vixens.

The Lionesses improve and finally start to play their game, the game is still scrappy but it’s an improvement. The Vixens try to go out to the wing for another try but Connie makes a wonderful tackle which seems to spur the Lionesses on. The first half ends with the Vixens winning 17-0 at half time.

Vixens kick off for the second half the ball is collected by Bosworth and the ball is passed out to Lucy who with one of her trade mark weaving runs gets the Lionesses on to the scoreboard. The conversion is missed 17-5 Vixens lead.

The Lionesses are starting to use their forwards to push forward and the ever willing Sophie is starting to have a big influence on the match with her rucking and pressing. Next try it's the Lionesses' hooker Emily who powers through. Lucy makes the conversion 12-17 to Vixens.

Vixens seem to be slightly rattled and begin to concede some penalties. After a Lioness srum the ball is passed out the back and Lucy goes over for her second try. The try is converted by Lucy and the Lionesses are in front 19-17. The comeback is on.

The next try was after some power play from the Lionesses forwards probing, the ball finds its way out to Bea who is in the winger’s position, with some daylight in front of her she runs straight for the try line with a very scared expression on her face? It does make the conversion kick rather difficult but I don’t think that was on the mind of Bea. Conversion is missed 24-17 Lionesses lead.

The tackles are flying in from all of the Lionesses, first it’s Ash, Connie, Eliza is another having an influence on proceedings, Sophie and Bea are in the mix, Erin and Lucy are everywhere.

Bosworth win a line out and the ball is recycled from one side of the pitch to the other and who is out on the wing? It’s Lucy and another weaving run and under the posts for her hatrick. Conversion is missed 29-17 to Bosworth.

With the game almost complete Vixens kick off and one bounce and one pass the ball is in the hands of Sophia. There is going to be only one outcome from this foot race. Sophia goes under the posts. Lucy converts. Bosworth Lionesses win 36-17.

The first 20 minutes were rather frustrating to watch as a spectator but we grew into the game and the girls showed some character and determination. Back to winning ways against a very well coached Solihull Vixens team. Well done girls.
